We're working with the Civic Arts Centre in Oswaldtwistle on a project called 'Doorstep Arts', supported by the Health Lottery. Over the last few months, artist have been working in the streets around the centre, to make lanterns, bread, a film, and bunting. At the moment Milton Street are working with Cath in the Attic to make hand painted mugs, and I'm working with residents from Haworth Street on a photography project.
I left letters at each house about a week ago, to introduce myself and the project, and let people know to expect a knock on the door. I then started meeting people on the street by visiting on a variety of days and times to increase my chances of catching people in.
A few people have said 'no thanks', and I've still got a few left to try and catch in at home - but I've met and photographed lots of people so far and it's been a really enjoyable experience. I've met a sleepy baby and a dancing dog.... seen onions being planted, and heard family stories from a lady who has lived on the street for 50 years. I've even had my photo taken in 2 houses by young lads who wanted to use the camera as well as being on it!
