Portraits of the Past

On Saturday there was a fantastic event by Mid Pennine Arts, at Gawthorpe Hall in Padiham. There was a full afternoon of activities to celebrate the launch of the 'Portraits of the Past' project, and the publication of a new book.
After the official launch and speeches by Nick and Cath, visitors were given their own copies of the book to take home with them, and there was drinks and cake for everyone.
There was also the opportunity for free family activities - storyteller Steve Fairclough led a walk through the grounds, and Jacqui from Print for Love of Wood brought some great kit for people to have a go at letterpress printing.
Just outside Gawthorpe Hall, you could find The Palace of Curiosities - a strange and magical tent full of wonders like 'tinned mermaid'!
'Betsy the scatter-brained Victorian scullery maid' was also around to chat with visitors, offering saucy comments in particular to the men in each group, and causing quite a few blushes as the day went on!
