Turnpike Gallery

The Landgate Create project that we've been working on had it's official launch at the Turnpike Gallery in Leigh. Over the last few months, Action Factory community arts and WLCT have been working with the Landgate estate from Ashton-in-Makerfield, to build skills and create art, exploring the past, reminiscing and also looking to the future.

We collaborated with Action Factory, Art Yarn and the Landgate community to create a film that mixes live action and animation, and tonight was the first time most of the community had seen it. We included lots of memories about people from Landgate who were seen as community heroes, used old photos and knitted characters too. We also displayed concept art from the film to accompany it.

As well as the film there was lots of knitted, clay and printed artwork, modern and heritage photographs, and a memory tunnel made with and by the community. It was fantastic to be at the launch, and see how excited and proud the community were of their achievements - and rightly so, it all looked brilliant! A lot of people have worked really hard to bring it all together, and their efforts really have paid off.

The film and exhibition will be at the gallery for the next few weeks and is free to look round - so if you're in the area check it out!
